Wrapped MON (WMON) Explained
Why native MON is wrapped into an ERC-20 token, how wrapping and unwrapping work, and what to check before you do it.
Why wrap the native token?
MON is the native gas token of Monad. Native tokens are not ERC-20 contracts, so many applications — exchanges, lending markets, liquidity pools — prefer a token that follows the ERC-20 standard. Wrapped MON fills that gap.
How it works
You send MON to the wrapper contract's deposit function and receive the same amount of wrapped MON. To unwrap, you call the withdraw function and the contract returns MON. The ratio is one-to-one; there is no price to negotiate.
Both actions are transactions, so each one requires MON for gas. Keep a small MON balance unwrapped for fees.
Checks before wrapping
Confirm the wrapper address from official Monad documentation or the application you trust. Copycat contracts can use the same name. Many apps wrap automatically during a swap — read the wallet prompt to see whether the contract is the one you expect.
